Deaths in Harry Potter that were the most unnecessary and heartbreaking
If there's one thing I remember from the entire Harry Potter series in the innumerable deaths that took place in it. Especially in Deathly Hallows. I understand that deaths add impact to the story and are meant to evoke emotion in the reader but I feel that in the Harry Potter series there are a few deaths that are simply not needed. The readers were already sad throughout the entire book and we did not need the deaths mentioned below. "
1. Hedwig- Hedwig was Harry's pet owl and I'm sure that you might be wondering, "What is the big deal about Hedwig?" First of all, I love animals to the extent that even the death of a stray dog in a movie stays in my mind until the movie is over. Secondly, Hedwig was Harry's only companion in those days at Privet Drive when he missed his friends and magical life. She was his only connection to the magical world when he was stuck home during the summers. She was with him in some of his biggest adventures and helped him stay in touch with Sirius, Hagrid, and other people. Even though I never noticed it before, I realized she probably has a bigger role in Harry's life than I thought. Hedwig, you are dearly missed :'(
2. Dobby- Dobby is the biggest symbol of loyalty and bravery in this book. He was a house-elf who had almost accepted the cruel captivity he had to live in. In the second book, he snuck out of his house without their master (the Malfoy's) knowing. If they got to know about it, he could have been killed or severely tortured. But he escaped just to save Harry and inform him about the dangers that lie ahead. He was willing to violate not only his master's instructions, but Harry's will itself to save him. For nothing in return. When he was freed and Lucius Malfoy tried to attack Harry, he repaid Harry by saving him. In Deathly Hallows, he sacrificed his life to allow Harry and the other's to escape from Malfoy Manor. It cost him his life! J.K. Rowling should have kept him alive as they never got to thank him enough. The most Harry was able to do was carve his gravestone (it wasn't his fault though). He should have been redeemed as he is a hero.
3. Fred Weasley- Fred Weasley and his George Weasley and his twin George Weasley were an important part of the series by the readers, providing comic relief to the readers in some much needed moments. Playing tricks in Hogwarts, troubling Ron, annoying Percy, and especially their conversation with Ron at their Joke Shop. Killing one of the twins is just plain saddening and doesn't add much to the plot either. I felt even worse while reading the book as he was a loved character. I couldn't even fathom what George must be going through after his death.
These were just a few deaths that I found were not needed but were also the saddest. There are a few more too. Who else should be added to this list?
This is the conversation between Fred, George, and Ron at their joke shop:
Ron: How much is this for?
Fred and George (in unison): 5 Galleons
Ron: (Obviously confused) How much is this for?
Fred and George (in unison): 5 Galleons
Ron: But I am your brother!!
Fred and George (shrugging their shoulders): 10 Galleons!!
