Learnings from my LEI business sales

The buzz started from last year, when the entire school attended the business sale set up by the 9th graders. We, 8th graders saw a variety of unique business ideas and we observed them for inspiration because we knew we were next.

This year, after months of hardwork, 9th graders set up their mela to sell their products. Me, being the bhukkad I am, decided to sell something people don't usually eat, so my business idea was to sell chocolates and a variety of brownies. This was not only the one of the most unique thing I had ever done, but also an experience which gave me a a lot of new learnings. Today, I'll share some of them with you.

1. ALWAYS be prepared for anything. - My business partner was unwell in the middle of  this unit and wasn't there on the most important day. The day I had a business pitch to deliver to investors. I was nervous and angry because I had scripted the entire pitch and she hadn't even informed. To top it off, it was Monday and someone told me that she was well enough but unnecessarily skipped school. I knew that I had to deliver the pitch and I had no option. Thankfully since I had scripted the pitch, I had a fair idea of what she had to say since I had an intuition that she would be absent. To my surprise, my pitch went quite well and I got a good grade on it too.

2. Don't be afraid to take help. - The task of carrying my brownies to school was a strenous task because it was heavy and there were too many things to carry. I am generally the person who wants to do things all by herself and not take anyone's help. But here, the situation forced me to take so many people's help. Me and my business partner also had a hard time handling the stall and payments alone so, to run the stall systematically. we also had to take my friends' help.

3. What all goes into a business - We learnt a lot of theoretical terms of a business, such as UVP, the 4 P's of marketing, business pitches etc. Whenever, I look at a new business while I'n out, I always think about what thought and ideation must have gone behind that business idea. I think that even if I am applying my new learnings that much, it is a good enough start because it shows that I have understood all the concepts I learnt.

  1. I'd love to hear more about your observations of new businesses and how you've noticed them apply things you've learnt in school too! Let's catch up about this?
